Feeding My Goal By Luiz Eduardo Pedroza
Since I was a teenager I knew I wanted to run my own business, specially in the food industry. Every time I saw a cool new restaurant or a nice franchise, I would picture myself running it, connecting with people and making them feel good. That’s what it was all about. That’s what made me feel good.
Once I have made it clear in my mind what kind of business I wanted, I began to attend several meetings, to go to franchise fairs and to send tons of e-mails. But nothing was really happening back then.
My Business Management graduation was not chosen at random. I wanted to improve my skills to be a better entrepreneur. During college, I’ve also had the opportunity to work with amazing people from the telecom industry, sustainable international trade and with financial affairs. I didn’t know it back then, but all those experiences were already adding to my journey towards my goal.
As soon as I finished college, Brazil began to face one the biggest economic crisis in its history. I even considered working with something else and postpone my dream. It was an uncertain period, I was unemployed and the bills started pilling up. I was stuck. Nothing seemed to be fit for me, until I decided to stop chasing for everything. I didn’t want everything, I wanted the ideal business to come to me. All of a sudden, the right people showed up, franchisors offered me good deals and the right opportunities appeared. The ideal business I asked for was given to me.

Now, I am a 24 year-old franchisee of the brazilian healthy snacks brand Megamatte (www.megamatte.com.br) in Rio de Janeiro. I could have started a food business from scratch, but I preferred to begin with a franchise due to its reliability. Basically, the franchisee runs a purchased business, and is responsible for the operation itself, which means a deep contact with the customers.
I realized that the key is not to focus on the “how”, but on the “what”. That is the key to achieve what you want. In the past, I didn’t know how I was going to have my own business, but now I have it. Right now, I don’t know how I’ll establish an admired company in the next 5 or 10 years, but I am focusing on what I want, regardless the how.
“That good feeling will get you exactly what you believe in, so believe you can have anything”
We may not understand all the process, because we tend to have a full view of our present situation. But the truth is: let it happen. When you are stuck in a job or a situation and nothing seems to work out for you, focus on what you want and where you want to be. That good feeling will get you exactly what you believe in, so believe you can have anything.
