Roche Bobois: Encounters With Spanish Fashion
Exhibition from 27th June to 1st of July at 080 Barcelona Fashion
Roche Bobois – the world leading luxury French furniture brand, has driven “Encounters with Spanish Fashion”, a charitable initiative that reflects the talent and creativity of Spanish designers applied to the iconic sofa Mah Jong. The intention is to collect funds for an NGO and tide the relationship between fashion and design.
After a great success in Mexico and England with the collaboration of several plastic artists reinterpreting the Mah Jong, or the recent intervention to the desktop Furtif by Street Artists in Brussels, the idea has continued, arriving to Spain with its charitable work.
“For many years, Roche Bobois has invested in cultural and artistic movements to fully express their vision of French Art de Vivre- says Gilles Bonan, CEO of the Roche Bobois Group. With this intent we have given a white canvas to talented Spanish designers such as (above) Agatha Ruiz De La Prada, Avellaneda, Purificacion Garcia, Nuria Sarda, Devota&Lomba, (below) Ion Fiz, Xevi Fernandez, Juana Martin, Custo Barcelona, Rossy De Palma, to interpret the Mah Jong iconic sofa. As a result it turned out to be a spectacular combination of creativity, boldness and energy.”
The designs will be part of an online auction house managed by Wardhouse: www.subastaswardhouse.com
Staring of a modular seat sofa in white, these ten great Spanish designers have “dressed” the legendary Mah Jong, transforming it into a unique piece. The result will be exposed from June 27th to July 1st during 080 Barcelona Fashion Week. After, it will be part of an exhibition exposed in different Roche Bobois showrooms and different Spanish cities until the end of October , with a purpose to bring these creations to the general public.
The collected funds will be entirely donated to OAfrica, the NGO founded by the charismatic Lisa Lovatt Smith who left her job as an editor in Vogue to pursue her project in Africa, fully committing to the care of children in Ghana.
The sofas will be delivered to winners of the auction in an exclusive event hosted by Rossy de Palma, godmother of OAfrica in Spain. The ceremony will be held in Madrid next November.
Rossy De Palma is well known for her career as an actress, yet her contributions to the world of fashion are not less relevant: Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton and Andres Sarda are just some of the creators she has collaborated with. Less known but equally intense is her collaboration with different charity organizations supporting women and children.
