Pavillon de la Reine | Discover A New Side To Luxurious Paris

Discover the secrets of Paris’ coolest canal with Pavillon de la Reine this summer

The long, lazy days of summer bring out the best of Paris – nowhere more so than along the calm waters of Canal Saint-Martin in northeast Paris. This summer, Pavillon de la Reine is inviting guests to dive into Paris’ coolest canal and discover a whole new side to the French capital.

Beautiful backdrop of Canal Saint-Martin

New for summer 2017, Hotel Pavillon de la Reine will arrange for guests to take to the water on a canal cruise, discovering the bohemian charms of the surprisingly undiscovered Canal Saint-Martin.

Just a short stroll from Le Marais and Le Pavillon de la Reine, canal cruises depart from the quayside of the Porte de l’Arsenal, where the River Seine meets the Canal Saint-Martin. Thus begins a magical two and a half hour, 4.5 kilometre, journey northwards towards Bassin de la Villette, where the canal ends.

Hôtel du Nord

Along the way, fascinating landmarks, seen up close, include the 400-year old Saint-Louis hospital – and Hôtel du Nord, around which the classic 1938 film of the same name was based. The 19th century waterway reveals a true Parisians’ Paris, lined with boutiques, parks, bistros and trendy cafés. Gliding along at a leisurely pace, the boat will pass through four locks, float under iron footbridges and past tree-shaded quays that formed the backdrop for some of the most atmospheric scenes in the much-loved 2001 movie Amélie.

Sit back and the world go by: posing model-like; couples strolling; university students talking; philosophers dreaming… this is a place to see and be seen.

Expert guides will talk guests through the history of the waterside neighbourhoods on the journey towards Paris’ revamped industrial quarters – where new waterside cinemas, theatres, restaurants and landscaped gardens have emerged, creating what is now one of Paris’ quirkiest summer spots.

Those who prefer to be in the water can take time for a dip in one of Paris’ new canal pools – opening in July – between the Canal Saint-Martin and the Canal d’Ours, ideal for cooling off in the summer heat. After a day spent exploring, guests return to the hotel for a summertime apéro, in the private courtyard.

Pavillon de la Reine

Truly in the heart of Paris, just off the Place des Vosges – often described as the most beautiful square in the world – the romantic, privately-owned Pavillon de la Reine has all the service and elegance of a grand palace with all the understated sophistication of a private home, deep in Le Marais. It is the only luxury hotel in the ancient quartier and the only hotel on the Place des Vosges. A very fitting base for a magical journey along the Canal Saint-Martin, a new way of discovering Paris in the summer. | 28 Place des Vosges, 75003 Paris, France
