Swinton Country Club & Spa | Luxury Estate In North Yorkshire
Swinton Country Club & Spa cleverly combines existing estate buildings with new contemporary structures, reflecting the destination and its distinct heritage
At the heart of a Yorkshire estate, owned and run by the same family since the 1880s, a brilliant new spa opened last month in July; one of the most significant spa openings in the UK this year, working with Bamford and Elemis.
The new Swinton Country Club & Spa is an important addition to the jigsaw of leisure activities already available to the Estate’s guests and visitors. At 20,000 acres, Swinton is one of the largest privately-owned estates in England. The spa is the vision of estate owners Mark and Felicity Cunliffe-Lister. Felicity has travelled extensively over the years and that, combined with her career in hospitality, has formed the basis for the inspiration and ethos behind the spa concept. She has also worked closely with consultant and current Vice-Chair of the UK Spa Association, Liz Homes, to bring the destination spa to the point of opening.
The Swinton Country Club & Spa’s design cleverly combines both existing estate buildings with new contemporary structures providing a spacious and tranquil environment, reflecting the destination and its distinct heritage. The magnificent Yorkshire landscape and the estate’s walled garden have inspired the interiors. The brand-new Country Club & Spa is committed to overall wellness and will draw on the myriad of outdoor activities already offered on the estate.
With a strong commitment to caring for mind, body and soul, Swinton has chosen to work with both Elemis and Bamford. This is Bamford’s first venture outside its Haybarn Spa brand. A range of treatments and personalised programmes will be offered. Signature treatments include the Elemis Poultice-Powered Muscle Release, the Elemis Garden of England Rose Restore Wrap, the Bamford Signature Facial and the Bamford Body Signature. The fitness team will also incorporate outdoor activities from the wider estate – be it walking, running, cycling or outdoor yoga – to take advantage of the natural therapeutic powers of thousands of acres of glorious Yorkshire countryside.
The old Estate Gardener’s cottage has been transformed into a suite of beauty rooms, for top-to-toe grooming. Fitness facilities include a Pulse Gym, combining static machines with functional fitness, as well as a group exercise studio offering a full range of seasonal classes and workshops from yoga and Pilates to spinning and circuits.
Next to the spa is the hub of the new Swinton Country Club & Spa, The Terrace Restaurant. Here Chef Christopher McPhee will cook delicious fresh nourishing dishes made from local produce – much of it grown in the estate’s 4-acre walled garden, the largest hotel kitchen garden in the UK.
In addition to the new Swinton Country Club & Spa, the estate offers its guests a romantic 32-room castle hotel, Swinton Park; a cookery school; glamping; outdoor activities – shooting, fishing, golf, hiking, pony trekking, woodland walks, horse riding, cycling – and two fabulous restaurants with new young chefs. Dogs are also welcome!
Swinton Estate offers its guests a true escape whether they are visiting for the day, a spa break or more.
