The aircraft chandelier from The Rag & Bone Man in London takes centre stage at Blackwattle Singapore amidst the black interior

Steeping into Blackwattle is akin to going into Chef Clayton’s world of beautiful simplicity. The almost all black interior with sleek architecture and quirky furniture brings a balance of seriousness yet fun at the same time. Clayton himself was involved in every step of the way with Singapore design firm Akira Kita Architecture to bring about his vision of ‘elevated comfort dining’. The quirky furniture as mentioned include aircraft chandelier from The Rag & Bone Man in London and soft bottle-green leather banquettes that allow guests feel like they are dining at Clayton’s own home.

Enjoy a drink or two at Blackwattle’s second floor bar

Blackwattle also features a second level that is less serious and more fun with a bar that guests can sit and sip drinks to wind down after a busy week. Guests can also choose to dine upstairs and enjoy Blackwattle‘s full menu for a more casual style dining without compromising on the excellent quality of food.

Top picks from Blackwattle‘s Australian influenced ala-carte menu include the fried cheese and tapioca seasoned with espelette which held a good crunch and was a good savoury start to the meal. The highly anticipated black angus beef tri-tip generously covered in tamari sauce with a side of burnt carrot and wood ear mushroom. The steak was cooked to perfection the tamari sauce complimented the steak to a T, without overpowering it. The burnt carrot and wood ear mushroom were fresh with a tinge of sweetness, a standout that would keep guests coming back for more.

“I’m really excited to bring our style of cooking and restaurant to Singapore. We will continue to showcase the best produce in a fine dining presentation yet in a casual, unpretentious setting. Our aim is to make our guests feel comfortable; whether they’re dining with company or a quick post-work snack at the bar, we aim for it to be a regular destination in the Singapore dining scene.” – Clayton Wells

Blackwattle definitely lived up to its promise of being an “elevated comfort dining” experience with its bold and unpretentious Australian inspired food in the most homely F&B space in Singapore. Our appreciation from The Hedonist Magazine for that luxurious F&B experience.
