Beauty & Essex New York | Unveil The Glamour Of The Prohibition Era
Amidst all that we love about New York’s Lower East Side grit, next to the Essex Street market is the seductive glamour of the prohibition era inspired Beauty and Essex. Walking in from the street you are first welcomed into a Pawn Shop where you can buy all kinds of antique and eclectic souvenirs. The space is filled with unique art pieces, vintage jewelry and even a collection of electronic guitars in different shapes and colors is hanging on the wall.
While you take a few minutes to wander around and position yourself, you notice how well the space is curated, converting all the interior elements as part of the décor. A very friendly personnel greets you and shows you to the back of the store where a non-descript door opens to reveal a grand multi-level, old world hideaway full of beauty and excitement.
You wouldn’t expect such an opulent and vibrant atmosphere behind, full of guests lively sharing and the personnel exciting running around. When we were seated and offered a glass of the finest champagne, Veuve Clicquot, we immediately noticed that in all this movement was a perfect balance. Although the space is grand and was filled with many guests that night, it still felt intimate and we could easily maintain a conversation. The classy yet trendy interior through its architectural details, elegant combination of colors and sophisticated bold textures blends into a timeless design rich with beauty, warmth and comfort.
This happening restaurant and lounge was created through a partnership between TAO Group and acclaimed Chef/Restaurateur Chris Santos. Just enjoying letting your eyes wander around the stunning room filled with old world charm and the beautiful people this establishment attracts would probably be enough delight, but then you discover that you will also be completely pleased with their menu. Santos’ imagination and talent for the innovative offers delicious plates meant to be shared along with cocktails created with new creative twists.
Treats served up include one of their signature dishes Grilled Cheese Smoked Bacon & Tomato Soup Dumplings; from the raw bar the fresh Spicy Salmon Tartare with orange & black tobiko, pickled daikon, radish, guacamole and Tuna Poke Wonton Tacos were great sharing starters to pace our appetite and leave room for more delicacies to come.
The must-try Kale Apple Salad with apple cider vinaigrette, pancetta, candied pecans and shaved goat cheese was indescribably unique, crispy and absolutely delicious. Eager for more, we continued with ‘Pastrami’ Style Beef Carpaccio topped with Russian dressing, Napa cabbage slaw and spicy mustard. The Oven Braised Chicken Meatballs were extremely tender and the hint of truffle gave our experience a sophisticated flavor. The Baby Carrots with caramel miso and almond truffle aioli were the best we have ever tasted. Then indulge your palate with equally decadent dessert like the Black Bottomed Butterscotch Pot De Crème with coconut Chantilly, which was absolutely irresistible.
After your feast take the sweeping staircase that spirals around a magnificent chandelier to find a wood-paneled lounge with divans and another bar. It’s the perfect place to kick back drink-in-hand or to celebrate any special occasion. A cocktail list with moody names like Mr. Right with jalapeño infused tequila, lime, celery bitters, IPA and Pink Panther with the botanist gin, elderflower liqueur, pink peppercorn syrup, lemon awaits you there.
For Sunday Champagne Brunch ideas, this unique venue should be on your list of things to do. You will certainly enjoy the offerings of savory and sweet brunch bites and fresh bubblies to dance away the whole afternoon.
