KATHRYN ORFORD | How To Silence Your Inner Critic

Australian born Kathryn Orford is one of those people we meet in life who perfectly fits the quote “Rising from the Ashes” because so she did.

Having been her own most vocal inner critic, she went from a failed suicide attempt to becoming a best-selling author, speaker, personal and professional development and peak performance coach who is passionate about empowering people to believe in themselves and their ability to turn their deepest desires into reality.  She now coaches elite athletes, performers, and high achievers.  People with a highly developed skill set who need help with tweaking their mindset to match their skill set.  

Kathryn has come a long way and is an inspiration for people finding themselves hopeless, in a rut or at the end of their rope. Knowing from personal experience what it feels like gives her an advantage and the empathy to guide people through these stages in order to bring out the winner and positive thinker in them.

At the time she felt suicidal, she didn’t realize that everyone had an inner critic. Her inner critic was telling her that she was so pathetic that she couldn’t even organize her own suicide successfully. The book that helped her immensely when she started re-building her life was You Can Heal Your Life by the late and great Louise Hay.  Once she chose life, she vowed to not let anyone rob her of her self-esteem and self-worth ever again and it paved her way to now teaching others how to silence their inner critic and become their cheerleader instead. She studied with the world’s experts in self-esteem, self-worth, human behavior and human potential in order to be able to help people who feel worthless and unloved.

Her book Become Your #1 Fan: How to Silence Your Inner Critic and Live the Life of Your Dreams has helped many people with similar experiences to change their lives for the better, and that’s what Kathryn’s ultimate goal in life is, to make a difference in as many people’s lives as possible.

The first half of this book is about clearing out the negative stuff and conditioning we’ve taken on board as children and take charge of our self-esteem and self-worth.  The second half of the book is all about tools and techniques to make your dreams a reality.  Become Your #1 Fan is for anyone that knows they are sometimes their own worst enemy and for those who struggle to achieve their deepest desires.  An audio version of the book is currently in the works to reach an even wider audience.

To complement her personal and professional development training programs, Kathryn is now promoting her Luxury Goddess Retreats in Hawaii for busy women to rest, relax, rejuvenate and dream up their rainbow print for the next 2-5 years of their life. She is also launching an 8-Week Program for Entrepreneurs on how to write, rehearse and rock their TEDx Talk or presentation to build their brand and grow their business. 

What she does is an extension of who she is, she doesn’t consider it as doing work. So being a life-long learner and having always been fascinated by human behavior and human potential, she is constantly challenging herself to be, do and become more of who she is.

So how does Joy during the creative process affect your own experience and in consequence the final manifestation of your actions, we asked her? “I’ve actually only ever done what I loved for a living, so unlike most adults, I’ve stayed connected to my joy.  And the littlest and simplest things bring me joy.  Like waking up to a beautiful sunrise, dancing to my favorite music, the smell of coffee brewing, a hug from my beloved to start the day, the sound of the ocean and the wind in my hair.  I do my absolute best work when I make it a priority to do something that brings me joy every day.  And I’m known as The Queen of Manifesting.  Personally, I think we’re all capable of manifesting our deepest desires. But first, we have to clean out the old limiting beliefs and conditioning and build our self-esteem and self-worth. I’ve learned we’ll either never achieve our goals or achieve them and sabotage them if we don’t believe on a deep cellular level that we deserve them.” 

Based on what she went through in her earlier life, would she change anything about how she was raised? “I actually wouldn’t change a thing,” she says, “because all of my life experiences have played a part in the woman I am today.  I was adopted at birth so I’m incredibly grateful I ended up with my mum and dad.  Were they perfect? Gosh no. Were they perfect for me to learn the lessons I needed to learn this lifetime… absolutely!”

On the good soul side, she recently volunteered at Dress for Success and plans on running confidence workshops for the women in their programs. She supports several charities in Ethiopia including The Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa and The Grace Centre in Bahir Dar. Ethiopia is special to her because she adopted her beautiful daughter from there.

Her message to the world if she had only 30 seconds to say something empowering is, “You are an exquisite human being that is MORE THAN ENOUGH. Re-connect with your inner child that still resides in your adult body, because he/she knows there’s no such thing as failure, it’s just part of the learning process. And they also know that all of their needs deserve to be met purely because they exist.  So start treating yourself as tenderly as you would that tiny child and your life will blossom!”
