BAR VERAZ Barcelona | An Invitation To Taste, Slow Down and Enjoy
Barcelona offers as many restaurants as the existing variety of tastes, occasions and budgets. Friend’s gatherings, casual eating, romantic dining or business brunches…there is no neighborhood that escapes from the blooming of new openings year after year. And of course, the ones living in the city love it, as part of our lifestyle diverges socializing in those places. But there is one special spot that deserves detailed attention…
Most probably you already know about EDITION Hotels, and if you have already been in Barcelona you will also have wandered around the streets of “El Born y la Rivera” -a Medieval neighborhood combining the remaining essence of the past and the trendy feel of the present. It’s in this dual combination where we find Bar Veraz, an outstanding lobby bar serving locally produced vermouth, craft beer, and sherry connected to an informal all-day dining restaurant.
Lead by executive chef and founder of the global movement ‘Cooking in Motion’, Sebastian Mazzola, formerly of Adria’s Tickets, Pakta, and Bodega 1900, Bar Veraz suggests a menu of reasonably priced Mediterranean dishes, that focus on fresh and seasonal produce. As a matter of fact, Santa Caterina market – projected by Italian Architect Benedetta Tagliabue and known for its waved shaped and Gaudi inspired roof- is right across the street and has become the main provider of the ingredients that result in Mazzola’s creations.
The lunch and dining menu bring a curated selection of meals all worth a try. But I can tell first hand that the following dishes will thrill your palate: accompany the main meals delighting the Sourdough Bread Selection”, as described, a selection of bread to dip in smoked butter, rougail sauce and fresh cheese preserved with lemon. Start with “The Best Part Of Burrata”, as simple as a combination of organic tomatoes, pickled apples and herbs exalting the already delicious flavor and texture of burrata. Definitely, a must is the signature “Whole Roasted Sweet Potato”, combined with crumbled feta, hazelnuts and watercress. If sharing, the “Costa Brava Risoni” with red prawn, asparagus and fennel is also an option that won’t leave you indifferent, as in fact…dodon’t expect “risoni” to be rice, I’ll leave it for a surprise. Digest a little bit and conclude with what I’d rather call “HEAVEN”, or in other words: “Warm Roasted Canarian Plantain” with Sponge cake topping, caramel, pecans & yogurt ice cream.
A kind relaxed service and a cozy intimate atmosphere invites the guest to slow down, enjoy and connect with those you are with while enjoying the gastronomy and a good glass of wine on a winter afternoon. Big tables and carefully designed furniture ensure a comfortable stay, while the natural wood, present throughout the whole space and a thoughtfully selected lighting plan embraces the guest to feel at ease at any time of the day. Certainly, such excellence in design has a signature name: Lazaro-Rosa Violán -the master interior designer behind some of the most sought-after “places to be” in the city.
To exhilarate the experience and round up your day, take the elevator all the way to “The Roof” (10th floor) right before sunset, and you will be blow-minded by the panoramic views of the city with its standing out architectural masterpieces such as Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, Tibidabo, the Santa Caterina Market Roof or Santa Maria del Mar with a flawless golden sunlight bathing on the city’s landscape.
