MARTIN FRITSCHES President and CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars America | The World of a Rolls-Royce Executive Building Strong Teams and Empowering Them
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd., the British ultra-luxury automobile maker, became a wholly owned subsidiary of the German luxury car group BMW in 1998 when it licensed the right to the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo from Rolls-Royce Plc.
With over 20 years of experience within the BMW Group at a senior level, Martin Fritsches has developed an in-depth knowledge of the luxury automotive business and the Americas region, the largest region for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars worldwide. The company’s vision is to produce truly modern cars that define quality and luxury for the 21st century, combining state-of-the-art technology and traditional craftsmanship.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Americas, a position he has held since September 2018, Martin Fritsches manages all activities and operations of this prestigious company, which includes the client relationships with the marque’s forty-four dealers in the Americas. It is a highly demanding position that comes with a heavy international travel schedule. It requires not only expert knowledge of the luxury automotive market but also the ability to mingle with ultra-high net worth individuals such as athletes, artists, and businessmen—the so-called one percent who can afford a bespoke vehicle such as the Rolls-Royce.
How does he do it all? A CEO’s top priorities, he explains, are delivering on his targets, building a strong team, developing the right people and empowering them. Motivating employees and having them enjoy their work is one of the most important objectives of his job.
“In a leadership position, it is key to have balance and understanding,” he says. “I get up early, try to sleep at least six hours and exercise at least four times a week. As technology continues to evolve, I am online 24/7, not only with my frontline team but also with business partners and friends. Needless to say, keeping a healthy diet has also been key to helping me be strong, focused, and energetic.”
With such a demanding work schedule, as well as a wife and two teenage children, balancing his work-life relationship is imperative.
“While my days and even weekends are very busy, I try to find the right balance between my work and family,” Fritsches says. “Obviously, I wish I could spend more time with my wife and children, but they understand the modern business life. Most important is to always answer the call. We connect via Skype/ or FaceTime on a regular basis, have at least a couple of meals together during the week—I love to cook with them—and we enjoy sports and activities together. I also love to read business-related articles and books. Given my background of German-Argentinian heritage combined with having lived many years in Brazil, I am very interested in politics and global economics. The world grows smaller every day, and we have to keep up with that trend.”

Martin continues, “I’m a strong believer that things don’t happen by chance. Having a dream and the ability to go after that dream is the key, but the journey will never be as smooth as you might think. In today’s technically advanced and globally connected world, it is more important to go through this journey with a strong team, whether it is in the office or at home.”
When asked about the Abraham-Hicks inspirational quote, “You can be, do and have anything you want,” Fritsches adds, “But only with a strong level of determination, persistence, humility, and passion in everything you do.”
